An Invitation To All Society Members

Looking for a way to connect with our local history while having the opportunity to meet people from all over the world?  Volunteer to be a host at the Saugatuck-Douglas History Museum this year. SDHS members who have hosted at the Museum in the past will tell you that in addition to learning the area's history, you'll talk with interesting visitors plus have a great time.

The 2011 exhibition at our award-winning museum is titled A Village Patchwork: Tales of Everyday Life in Saugatuck-Douglas.  It will feature photographs, artifacts and stories uncover the mysteries of daily life in our region from 1890-1950.

To be a Museum Host all you will need to do is:

-     Volunteer for at least 1 (but hopefully more) 2-hour shift during this year's season.   The Museum is open Noon to 4 p.m. - daily, Sunday, May 29 to Labor Day and Saturdays and Sundays in September and October.

-     Attend a 1-hour volunteer orientation session for new Hosts on Saturday, May 21.  (Hosts from prior years are invited to attend for a "refresher".)

Museum Hosts are invited to:

-     The Museum Opening reception on Saturday, May 28, and

-     The Volunteers' "Thank You" reception and dinner at the close of the season.

If you are interested or have a question about being a volunteer host, call Bill Hess at 269.857.1081.  You will enjoy being a host and you'll get to meet a lot of nice people.  Its 2 hours well spent!
