The Society's Technology Department

The office is in the basement of Dutcher Lodge -- the entrance is opposite the Post Office. Jack Sheridan, Mary Voss, Chris Yoder, Dick Haight and others are there often but at no fixed times. In addition, the office is staffed about 8 hours a week on a reasonably regular schedule: Members should feel free to stop by at these times. In addition there is a new Society "mail" slot in the overhead door on the north side of the building. Members can use the slot to communicate with the staff. The phone number is listed below.

As a joint project between the Society, the S-D Library and S-D Schools, we hard at work at the big job of digitizing the 136 years of the Commercial Record. With enough volunteer help we can probably finish in about another year.

We need more volunteers. Especially those interested in expanding their computer graphics know-how.

A Sample Historical Document "On-line"

In 1947, the Reverend James Allen collected materials for a brief history of All Saint's Episcopal Church. The Society's Tech group has recently converted the typed document via computer text recognition (OCR) into a 'PDF' file. If you have high speed Internet you might be interested in looking at this on-line copy.

All Saint's History

(We could do a lot more of this sort of thing, but it involves a lot of volunteer hours.)

The Historical Society, the Saugatuck-Douglas Library, the Friends of the Library and the S-D School System are creating an on-line archive of the local Commercial Record newspaper.

Since page files are large, hi-speed Internet service is strongly recommended.

Page images from 1868 through 1957 are now available. Try it!
